Business Improvement Techniques

Business Improvement Techniques (BIT) provide ways in which processes within any business can be stream-lined and developed for maximum efficiency and effectiveness with a resulting effect on the company's bottom line. BIT therefore makes for ideal NVQ courses.

Level 2

This NVQ can be applied to all sectors but is particularly applicable to the manufacturing and engineering sectors.

Candidates complete five mandatory units:

• Comply with Statutory Regulations and Organizational Safety Requirements
• Contributing to Effective Team Working
• Applying Workplace Organization (5s/5C)
• Applying Continuous Techniques (Kaizen)
• Creating Visual Management Systems

They then choose one optional unit from options such as:

• Apply Set up Reduction Techniques
• Apply Problem Solving Techniques
• Carrying out Mistake/Error Proofing (Poka Yoke)

Level 3

This NVQ can be applied to all sectors but is particularly applicable to the manufacturing and engineering sectors.

Candidates complete six mandatory units:

• Leading Effective Teams
• Applying Workplace Organisation
• Carrying Out Problem Solving Activities
• Creating Flexible Production and Manpower Systems
• Applying Continuous Improvement Techniques (Kaizan)
• Creating Visual Management Systems

They then choose a further three optional units from options such as:

• Carrying out Capability Studies
• Applying Value Management
• Carrying out Lead Time Analysis
• Carrying out Six Sigma Process Mapping
• Applying basic statistics
